History

By novik in Russia XVI - XVII centuries named young noblemen and boyars, from the fifteen-year age, yet not written down on military service, and till 18 years then they were enlisted in regiment and passed in the category military people. Later by novik people began to name something new, made for the first time that did not exist earlier.

The first ship to which gave name "Novik", was corvette, constructed in Petersburg on Ohotinsky shipyard in 1856. It was in structure of a cruiser squadron of rear admiral A.A.Popov and took part in the well-known American expedition of Russian fleet of 1863-1864. on September, 14, 1863, having got in a fog at coast of Northern America in area San Francisco, corvette sat on stones and has sunk.

In 1900 name "Novik" was received with a cruiser of II rank. It under command of the captain N.O.Essena's 2 ranks has glorified itself in the Russian-Japanese war of 1904-1905 at defense of Port Arthur; participated in fight in Yellow sea on July, 28, 1904. The cruiser in August, 1904 at island Sakhalin was lost. In 1905 it is lifted by Japanese, it is repaired and included in structure of the Japanese fleet as an easy cruiser. Served till 1913.

In 1911 under the offer of the commander naval forces of Baltic sea of vice-admiral N.O.Essena by "Novik" have named a squadron torpedo boat.
In 1997 it is incorporated and in 1998 patrol ship "Novik" (the project 12441), head in series CKR of new generation is lowered.
