Canal passage

For Nikolaev ports all vessels should pass Bugsko-Dneprovsko-Limansky Canal (BDLC). The port waters and Canal accommodate ships up to 215 m in length, up to 30 m in width and maximum draft up to 9.8 m. Exceptions to those dimensions determined by the Harbour Master, case by case. Navigation in BDLC is: for port's entry is day after day, in convoy. Tug assistance is compulsory for ships over 187 m length while passing through BDLC, at wintertime with ice – class tug heading.

Pilotage through BDLC and mooring in the port are compulsory. The order for a pilot should be done through the Agent to the state enterprise Delta-Pilot. Canal Disbursements for tugs/pilot service should be paid (through Agent). Place of Canal pilot embarked on board is port Yuzhny outer roads, place of finishing BDLC pilot assistance – port Niko roads.

Navigational conditions

Mooring operations are not allowed when wind peed is 15 mps or more. Ports are opened round - the year. Usually port covers with ice during about month, (according to the Port regulation ice period officially announced from 1 st of February to 1 st of March). All maneuvers and mooring operations in the port may be carried out only by Harbour master permission if pilot is on board.

Tug assistance and Pilotage

Tug assistance is compulsory for ships of more than 187 m in length while passing through BDLC. At shipmaster's request, tugs can also serve small-size vessels. Port Pilotage is compulsory also. Vessels should proceed in port under pilot heading from outer roads up to berth alongside.

Port service

  • Potable water can be supplied from barge while vessel pier alongside or on roads, minimum quantity – 15 t. Customs formalities will done by Agent within 2-3 hours in port working day. Cost per 1 mt is 5 USD.
  • Collection and discharge of oil-polluted and sewage waters from all vessels can be performed by port services upon master's order and in accordance with standard tariffs.
  • Ships lying on the on the roadstead are serviced by a pilot boat or road boat.
